Our Founder

Founder & Master Conservator
Williamsburg Art Conservation Inc. was founded in 2003 by Tom Snyder. A furniture maker for 8 years, Tom studied furniture design and proportions before receiving a BA in Art History and a MA in Art Conservation, both from Buffalo State College. A post-graduate internship and several subsequent years were spent working in the furniture conservation lab of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.
Today, Tom treats wooden artifacts, gilded frames, and other objects owned by museums and private clients alike with the level of care and sensitivity that are expected and demanded by conservation professionals. He is a Professional Associate of the American Institute for Conservation of Historic & Artistic Works (AIC) and always follow the practices and ethical guidelines as set forth by AIC. Artifacts in the possession of Williamsburg Art Conservation are insured by Huntington T. Block fine arts insurance.

1995

The Journey Begins

Tom Snyder begins his career as a furniture maker, developing expertise in woodworking and historical furniture design that would later become invaluable in conservation work.

1998

Academic Foundation

Tom completes his BA in Art History, developing a deep understanding of artistic styles and historical contexts essential for authentic restoration work.

2000

Conservation Expertise

After earning his MA in Art Conservation from Buffalo State College, Tom begins his post-graduate internship at the prestigious Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.

2003

Founding Vision

Williamsburg Art Conservation Inc. is established, with a mission to provide museum-quality conservation services to both institutions and private collectors.

Professional Recognition

Tom earns Professional Associate status with the American Institute for Conservation of Historic & Artistic Works, recognizing his expertise and commitment to ethical practice.
